Our Founder and Principal

A consummate professional, Rich Warfield is ultimately jazzed by success. Though passionate about results, he will purposely set aside activities he is working on when the opportunity to encourage, mentor, or coach a teammate offers itself. Rich leans heavily on the proven philosophies of business management guru, Peter F. Drucker who said, “Performance is the ultimate test of an organization.” Obvious right? Sure it seems obvious but it means nothing unless performance is measured and used to move an entity to greater heights, or sometimes, simply out of its predefined box. More, better, faster, longer… The future of any organization depends on having executives that can manage today while communicating vision and process that leads to an exciting future. That’s leadership that yields performance for the long term.

Rich reached this point in his career after having traveled a broad and extensive road. He became interested in business success after a stint flying for the United States Air Force. Building and opening new stores for The Jack Eckerd Drug Company led to four years as an Authorized Catalog Sales Merchant, self-employed, for Sears during which sales more than doubled and sales honors were received. Rich sold the business and bought The Caroline Review, see www.carolinereview.com, a small monthly publication that he and his wife, Loretta have operated with steady growth for seventeen years. Seeking greater challenge, Rich moved into an Administrative Director role with Tri-Gas and Oil Company, managing all administrative functions for the Commercial Transport division. The lure of greater challenge took him to The Town of Easton in Easton, Maryland where he developed a penchant for, and appreciation of technology while working full-time, earning an MBA degree, and coaching Pop Warner football. After that, almost any discussion of process improvements became peppered with the importance of technology, but never at the expense of relationships and effective communication.

In the summer of 2000, Rich moved his family to the resort area of Delaware to be closer to his wife’s family. After much soul-searching regarding whether he should extend his career in the public sector, Rich was introduced to an amazing organization and took a position in the Sales and Marketing department of Carl M. Freeman Communities. The organization preached core values that included: respect, innovation, building enduring customer relationships, personal and organizational growth, and most importantly, a commitment to the communities where they operate. Rich went from Project Coordinator to Project Manager and then into Human Resources when he became convinced that significant organizational impact could be made there. Two years of intense HR management experience culminating with a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification, was the final piece of the puzzle. Now Excellence Strategies keeps him hopping along with several other personal and spiritual interests. He loves sharing his vision of the incredible synergy available within operational excellence to anyone who will offer an ear.

When opportunity permits, Rich enjoys travelling, camping, skiing, reading, and spending chunks of time with close friends. He also loves bragging about his lovely and gifted wife, Loretta, three amazing children, Kyle, Melinda, and Ben, and two dogs, Cougar and Boo Boo Bear. He always finds time for mentoring within the local school system and strengthening his personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
